Waterfront
When one thinks of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, you have to think about boating and the many waterways, inlets and rivers in addition to the Chesapeake Bay itself. From the Kent Narrows east, it’s all about the water. If you should have an opportunity to fly over the area in a small plane, you could not help but marvel at this unique estuary. Many communities on the Eastern Shore are waterfront communities offering water privileges which might include boat ramps, available slips, piers, and sometimes a community clubhouse and swimming pool. There are always ample local crabs and oysters with many crab feasts held throughout the summer. Eastern Shore sweet corn is a favorite with everyone, and many beach goers load up on their way home before they cross back over the Bay Bridge. There is a lot of history here as well. Kent Island (Kent Fort) is the first English settlement in Maryland (1631) and the third oldest in the country behind Plymouth and Jamestown. Many events are held throughout the year to celebrate this very special place. We hope you will join us in “the land of pleasant living.”
